Best of Greetings - You Made My Day

Last night I got to "Scrap and Skype" with my Sister and Mother. Since my sister lives in Ontario and my Mom and I live in Alberta we set a time, atleast once a month to chat and create.

My Paper Pumpkin has been great because all ofus get a kit and we can all create without needing a lot of supplies. It is neat to see how my mom and sister put a spin on the cards. They are so creative!!!!

I love to be able to spend the time with them both and catch up with my sister. It seems we often get caught up in our lives and lose touch.

I am dedicating this card to my mom and sister because "Scrap and Skyping" with them Made My Day!!!

My Niece's Minnie Mouse Birthday Card!

Last weekend we celebrated my Niece's 3rd Birthday. She was so cute all dressed up in her Minnie Mouse Costume!!!

I knew I had to make a Minnie Mouse Card because that was the Theme for her party. She loved the card and actually posed for a picture with the card. I will cherish that card forever. It is a reminder to me that making cards puts a smile on people's faces.

Some time in the near future I will show you my 8X8 punch art cheat card for Minnie Mouse, because I don't have a picture of it right now.

I cased my Minnie Mouse from Sharron White. Unfortunately she is no longer a demonstrator and isn't selling her tutorial for her Disney Characters any longer. I did the best I could to copy what she did just by looking at the photo. As I mentioned I will share my cheat sheet in the next while.

To see all my latest ideas and pins you can follow me on Pinterest here. I have lots of great ideas and I try to keep things fresh!

Stampset: Petite Pairs

I also have to share with you this fantastic cake my Niece's mom made for her Birthday. She is extremely talented!!! Plus the cake tasted amazing!!!!

Washi Washi Washi Halloween Close Up

What a relief it is to have my class presentation over with. I think it went fairly well but as predicted my voice got extremely shaky. I just hope everyone was able to understand what I was saying. Unfortunately I won't know how well we did until the end of the class. My teacher said he won't grade us until everyone has presented. Do you think that is fair? I don't, I am worried he will compare us to everyone else and they will have had a lot more time to prepare than we did.

As promised here are some closer up photos of the 3X3 Halloween Washi cards I made a week or so ago. These cards were chosen as runner up in the Friday Mashup challenge.

Make sure to keep coming back because I will have the other cards for you.

I will also have a very exciting announcement to tell you about October 1st so stay tuned for that as well!!!

Friday Mashup (FM128) - Sock Monkey Halloween

Here's an early Tuesday post...

Tomorrow I have to give my presentation to my class. It has been a very long time (6 years or so) since I have had to get in front of a group of people and talk. I hope I can slow myself down and talk calmly or our presentation will not be long enough.

After seeing what Friday Mashup was doing for their challenge this week I realized I have very little fall stampsets. In fact I have only two; Lovely as  Tree and Magnificent Maple (from the current Holiday catalog). For their challenge this week I had to go into my retired stamps and this is as close to a Paper Piecing harvest stampset I had. I love this technique but depending on how detailed your stamp is it can take you a while.

Here's your Mashup Challenge:
  1. Create a project with a "Fall/Harvest Food Theme (Preserves, Apples, Pumpkins etc.)."
  2. Create a project using "Paper Piecing."
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a "Fall Food themed project with some Paper Piecing "

In order to paper piece the sock monkey I stamped him once on each of the following cardstocks; Smoky Slate (already stamped with the canvas background stamp in Smoky Slate), Real Red, Whisper White. I also did the same thing for the Pumpkin on; Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Baked Brown Sugar.

Then I cut out the full Smoky Slate monkey and Pumpkin Pie Pumpkin. Then you cut out your smaller pieces in Real Red, Whisper White, Old Olive and Baked Brown Sugar and I glued them on top of the full cut out image of the Monkey and Pumpkin.

One trick is to make sure you are cutting right on the outside line of the stamped image. This way your lines will still appear on your smaller pieces.

Stampset: Seasonal Sayings, Sock Monkey (Retired), Canvas Background (Retired)
Paper: Smoky Slate, Basic Grey, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Baked Brown Sugar, Real Red, Polka Dot Parade DSP
Ink: Smoky Slate, Black Staz on
Markers: Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Baked Brown Sugar
Bigshot: Magnetic Platform, Squared Collection Framelits
Tools: Paper Snips
Accessories: Basic Grey Corduroy Buttons (Retired)

Your Amazing

After a crazy busy weekend of trying to put together a presentation for my upcoming class on Tuesday I have to say my partner Casey is Amazing!!

He allowed me to focus on my school work and took care of the grocery shopping, yard work and dinner all weekend!!! I truly love him and I am so grateful to have him in my life. I hope you all have someone as equally as wonderful in your life!

Stampset: Your Amazing
Paper: Soft Sky, Basic Grey, Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler
Markers: Basic Grey, Island Indigo, Cherry Cobbler
Bigshot: Magnetic Platform, Apothecary Accents, Argyle Embossing Folder

In order to create the border for the cut out Apothecary Accent stamped image you need to cut out two more of the same shape in the color you would like for the border (I did my in Cherry Cobbler.

Cut one in half, one horizontally the other vertically. Trim the one you cut vertically to look like it is shown in the first photo. Adhere you pieces so they peak out the sides of your stamped image. Do the same for your other two pieces.

I hope my directions and pictures help to make this technique easier for you to understand.

For me adding the border is simple but it does make a big difference on this card.

FMS104 Halloween Washi Again!!!...

I apologizing for not posting on Friday! I started going back to University on Tuesday and the homework has already been piled on. I am trying to keep my head above water but that meant I had to stop blogging for a couple days. I will do my best to keep you motivated daily with a new creation.

Onto my latest creation. I am not sure why but I keep going back to making my own DSP with washi tape. It might be because I do not have any Haloween DSP but I am not sure.

As always, I love the sketch at Freshly Made Sketches and found this card to come fairly easily (easy for me is a couple hours in the craft room while watching netflix....)

Continue to scroll through my post for photos on how to give you the black highlight around the stamped image.

Stampset: Tags 4 You
Paper: Basic Grey, Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Basic Grey, Basic Black
Punches: Label Bracket
Bigshot: Chevron Embossing Folder
Accessories: Witches Brew Designer Washi Tape, 1/8" Mini Brads

Cut both pieces in half  and also cut along the dotted lines as pictured above.

I forgot to mention to also cut the small corners as shown by the white lines.

Adhere two pieces to the back of your stamped and punched image spacing out the pieces. Do the same for the other two pieces.

The back of your stamped and punched image should look like this.

The White Challenge - I love you!

This card was cased from another card I seen on Pinterest from Cristina at My Paper Secret. I knew I had to case her card when I seen The Shabby Tea Room  "The White Challenge". Of course I changed up the card, added more layers and changed the shapes and accessories.

If you would like to see Cristina's card you can go to my pinterest board here and find her card.

You're in My Thoughts

This weekend my partner Casey issued me a challenge. He said if I could come up with three cards all on my own he would buy me one thing I really wanted from Stampin' Up!. The big challenge for me was creating a card without looking at anyone's card or sketch as inspiration. The card had to come completely from me.

Below is the first of three cards I was able to create all on my own. This means I completed my challenge and now get to pick something for him to buy me. I am going back and forth between the Bow Die and the Circle framelits. Maybe I will get Stampin' Up's Typeset Alphabet Bigz die... Who knows, I will have to find out if there is a limit to what I can spend.

I think I will be submitting this card as another card in Friday Mashup's challenge.

In order to get the white sentiment punched smaller than the original size I punched the sentiment and then stuck each side back in, one at a time and punched each edge again.

Stampsets: Too Kind, Best of Greetings
Paper: Basic Grey, Smokey Slate, Rose Red, Whisper White
Ink: Blushing Bride, Rose Red, Gumball Green
Bigshot: Magnetic Platform, Window Frames Collection Framelits, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder
Tools: Decorative Label Punch
Accessories: Basic Rhinestones, Blushing Bride 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon

Christmas Washi Tape Card

I have been so busy I haven't been able to update my blog with the results of the Freshly Made Sketches and Friday Mashup Challenges. I am super honoured to have been chosen as a Princess on the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge and a Glamette on the Friday Mashup Challenge. Both blogs have posted a new challenge and I have already submitted my card on the weekend.

After the Friday Mashup Challenge last week I am a little obsessed with Washi Tape. I hope you are not tired of Washi Tape yet, because I have another Washi card for you.

This card is another case from pinterest. It is the same layout, different Washi Tape and different embellishments from my last washi tape card.

I created the checkerboard background using my simply scoring tool scoring at every 1/2". The layered effect on my sentiment was done by punching out two bracket label shapes in old olive. I cut them in half and spaced it out and glued it to the back of the sentiment. I will remember to take pictures next time I create a label like the one in the photo so I can give you a photo tutorial.

Stampset: Tags 4 You
Paper: Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Old Olive
Markers: Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive
Tools: Label Bracket Punch, Simply Scored Scoring Tool, Stampin' Trimmer

Butterfly Pinterest CASE

I found a card on Pinterest from Sarah J. Moerman and fell in love with the layout. I couldn't wait to try it with the Stampin' Up! Elegant Butterfly punch.

You can follow me on Pinterest at http://www.pinterest.com/craftsaddicted/

Each butterfly has two or more layers with a dimensional in between each butterfly. They are also popped up on dimensionals to make the butterflies stand out more.

Picking the DSP and embellishments was the hardest part. Once you know what you want to use this card comes together easily.

Stampset: Teeny Tiny Wishes
Paper: Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake
DSP: Epic Day This and That, Afternoon Picnic, Venetian Romance, Modern Medley, Birthday Basics, Soho Subway
Ink: Black Staz On
Bigshot: Bitty Banners, Magnetic Platform

Dahlia Thinking of You

When I seen Freshly Made Sketches this week I was stumped for a while. While sleeping last night a Polaroid flashed in my head, and I thought it would work great for their sketch. Looking at their sketch now I see I went fairly out of the box but I still think it fits the sketch enough to submit my card for their challenge.

I also combined their sketch with Friday's Mashup's challenge of making a Sympathy or Thinking of you Card.

I am been very drawn to the Dahlia Stamp. I hope you like it because I think you will be seeing it a lot more in the next year (or longer, if Stampin' Up doesn't retire it).

To make the Polaroid I cut my Basic Black to 3-1/4" X 3-5/8". I used a square framelit to cut out the centre. My Whisper White cardstock is cut to 3-1/4" X 3-1/4" and glued behind the Polaroid.
The sentiment was powder embossed using Versamark ink and Whisper White Embossing Powder melted with Stampin' Up's Heat Tool.

Stampset: Regarding Dahlia, Embellished Events
Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight, Gingham Garden DSP
Ink: Island Indigo, Versa Mark
Bigshot: Square Framelits, Top Note Die (inside card)
Tools: Heat Tool, White Embossing Powder, Stampin' Trimmer
Accessories: Brights Candy Dots, Candy Dot Brads

I am super honoured to have been chosen as a Princess on the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge and a Glamette on the Friday Mashup Challenge. Both blogs have posted a new challenge and I hope to be able to create cards for them tonight.
Stay tooned...

This card was inspired by a pin on Pinterest by Kristina Werner. Using washi tape to make a DSP was a great idea and I love how this card turned out.

Convention Funky Fold Swap - Pop Up Gift Card Holder

This is the perfect card to use if you are giving someone a gift certificate. It gives you just enough room to write a little message and still "wrap" their gift. I used Splitcoaststampers tutorial to make this card. The directions were perfect and super easy to follow along with. I have other renditions of this card which I will share with you later. As with my other Convention Funky Fold Swap we were allowed to use retired DSP but everything else is current.

If you are not Canadian and do not know what a Timcard is, it is a gift card to our most popular coffee/doughnut shop in Canada, Tim Hortons. It seems like we have one on almost every corner in Calgary. In my opinion their Sour Cream Glazed doughnuts or "timbits" are the best!!! I am thinking I shouldn't have used the Timcard in my photo because now I am craving Tim Hortons!!! Too bad I am trying to be "Sugar free" otherwise I would be on my way there right now...

Washi Washi Washi Friday Mashup Challenge FM126

I never thought using Washi tape could be so easy and fun!!! I had a great time creating these two sets of cards over the last two nights. I wanted to make sure to complete the cards before the challenge at Friday Mashup closed.

Friday Mashup is great because they give you not one but two challenges!!! You have a choice, take on one challenge or make a project following both challenges.

This week the challenges were, Create a project using Washi Tape, and Create a set of 3X3 quick note cards. I took this challenge head on and below is what I came up with.

Some time this week, when I can take a picture in the sun, I will provide you with a close up of each card.

August Open House Make and Take

I would like to say this card was inspired by one of the cards in the Stampin' Up Demonstrator Magazine "Stampin' Success" however, that would be a small like. The card was actually completely cased from the Stampin' Success magazine. I loved the card when I seen it and knew it would be fairly simple for anyone to re-create. How can you go wrong? With a little stamping and a small punch this card is easy to make. Who knew a one layer card could look so great...

The first card is the simple version they showed and the second is a slightly spiced up.

In case you can't see the difference, there is the addition of the Old Olive and Whisper white DSP strip and the Elegant Butterfly under the flower.

Paper: Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Brights and Subtles DSP Stacks
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Old Olive, Crumb Cake   Punch: Elegant Butterfly, Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack

Third week using Freshly Made Sketches FMS102

So far so good. I am keeping up with my goal!!! This is the third week I have completed a card for Freshly Made Sketches (although last week I late posting my card). Cindy's sketch is fantastic and super easy to use. It seems the more I use sketches the easier cards are coming to me. I am super proud to call a card my own. I am slowly getting away from copying others cards to creating my own and that feels fantastic!!! I must be in love with Chalk Talk framelits because I keep going back to that them no matter what the card.

I knew I really wanted to use my newest stampset Regarding Dahlias. I love this flower and I am sure you will see a lot more of this stampset over the next year.

I couldn't decided which embossing folder I liked more so I made two exact cards but changed the sentiment and embossing folder. I am hoping you can tell me which card you like more.

Here is Freshly Made Sketches card sketch for this week and my cards.

Stampset: Regarding Dahlias
Paper: Very Vanilla, Island Indigo, Early Espresso, Soho Subway DSP
Ink: Crisp Cantaloupe, Early Espresso

Big Shot: Chalk Talk Framelit, Chevron Embossing Folder, Honeycomb Embossing Folder
Accessories: Summer Starfruit 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon

Happy Stamping!!!!!!!!!

Convention Funky Fold Swap - Tent Fold

I did this card for a swap for convention. We were allowed to use retired DSP but everything else had to be current. This is a very simple funky fold but it is nice to have something a little different than the standard card. All you do is cut your cardstock base at 4 1/4" X 8 1/2" and score at 4 1/4". When you adhere the "topper" of your card (the oval flower shape in my card), make sure the full card height doesn't exceed 5 1/2". If it does, it will not fit in your standard card envelopes.

This card is super easy and would be great with any of the new framelits.

Seasonal Sayings Card and Another Sketch

This stampset was in last years Holiday catalog and I am very glad they carried it over into the 2013-2014 Annual catalog. I got a lot of use out of the Christmas stamp but it was time I used one of the other stamps. I had this sketch pinned on Pinterest and thought I would be able to "whip" up a card. It took some time for me to figure out how to do the bow but I am as happy as I am going to be. I struggle with the new chevron ribbon when it comes to tying it in a bow. If anyone has some ideas I would love to see them!!!

To add a little dimension to the flags I used a sponge and sponged the edges of each flag. It helps them to pop out a little so they don't bled into the background DSP as much.

Thank you Try Stampin' On Tuesday for your sketch!

If you ever need some inspiration come visit me on Pinterest!! http://pinterest.com/craftsaddicted/ Some of the crafting inspiration I have is, Card Sketches, Scrapbook Sketches, Punch Art, Color Combinations, Cards that are fantastic and so much more!!!

Sorry the picture isn't as great a quality but when I got home from volunteering at the foodbank tonight the sun had already. This meant I couldn't take my photo outside which usually helps the picture to turn out better. Hopefully I will be able to get some good photos outside tomorrow.

Paper: Costal Cabana, Whisper White, Eastern Elegance DSP (130131)

Merry Little Christmas Card Swap

As I mentioned on my Holly Wreath post I am in a swap with my Up-Upline. This is my second card I will be swapping. I took my card from yesterday and changed up the stampset. It was simple to do!!! Imagine the possibilities with that sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!!!!

If you are wondering how I cut out the stampset, yes I did use the Chalk Talk framelits. However, when you are running it through the Bigshot you only have 3/4 of the framelit on the cutting mat, with 1/4 of the framelit hanging off the end. Once you run it through the big shot only half of your image is cut out. You move the framelit to the other side of your stamped image and run it through again. Making sure to line up your framelit and also making sure you hang half of your framelit off the edge of your cutting mat. With a total of two quick runs through the Bigshot you have cut out your image and extended the possibilities for your framelits!!!

Stampset: Merry Little Christmas
Paper: Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Gumball Green, Baked Brown Sugar, Season of Style DSP Stack (132181)
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Gumball Green, Baked Brown Sugar
Big Shot: Northern Flurry Embossing Folder, Chalk Talk Framelits (129983)
Accessory: Rhinestones Basic Jewels (119246), Naturals Designer Buttons (127554)
